Workshop on Advance Care Planning

What Matters Most at the End of Life –Ensure Your Wishes are Honored

Workshop on Advanced Care Planning

Saturday, September 30, 2017    9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Vashon Presbyterian Church,  17708 Vashon Highway, SW

Discussing last wishes is never an easy topic but to talk with loved ones while we’re young and healthy, before we reach a point of not being able to speak for ourselves, assures our wishes are honored.  It is a gift to our loved ones and can give them peace of mind.  Bring a friend or family member to start the conversation with the help of trained facilitators.  Advance care planning documents will be available and follow-up is available.

The workshop is free.  Expect coffee and muffins!

Book Discussion Series: Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, M.D.

Book Discussion series, no prior reading necessary!

 Tuesday, September 26, 2017, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Vashon Bookshop, 17612 Vashon Hwy SW.

Gawande is a surgeon, author, staff writer for The New Yorker and a professor at Harvard Medical School.  He explores how our medical model creates suffering in aging and death and shares research as well as powerful stories of his own family and patients.  Being Mortal shows how the ultimate goal is not a good death but a good life –to the very end.

Join us for a lively discussion of these important topics and how they are impacting our own lives, and our community on Vashon.

Led by Catherine Henderson and Colleen Brooks
